How do fast-paced video games affect the brain? Step into the lab with cognitive researcher Daphne Bavelier to hear surprising news about how video games, even action-packed shooter games, can help us learn, focus and, fascinatingly, multitask. Well, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie has a trailer, and wow, is it unpopular! This is no Detective Pikachu, with audiences unsure whether they love it or not. There aren't a lot of people willing to defend any element of the Sonic movie, except maybe Jim Carrey as "Dr Eggman Robotnik". With a movie like this, that's so universally reviled even at this early stage, you have to wonder: who signed off on this? Who thought this was a good idea, and who actually set out to make this movie a reality? The answer is, Sony. Well, Sony Pictures. The company behind the PlayStation, which owns movie studio Columbia Tristar, aggressively sought after the Sonic the Hedgehog license, and hired a director and producers for the film, before throwing up their hands and abandoning the entire project. If that sounds weird, it gets better: this is a story of two Spider-Man executives who were trying to get the rights to make a Pokemon or Mario movie, and ended up with Sonic instead. It's the story of Deadpool director Tim Miller getting in an argument with Ryan Reynolds, and of an acadamy award nominator animator who ended up directing a video game movie. Strap in, because this is a really wild ride. But you know what they say: gotta go fast! Here's some creepy sounds from old gaming systems. These sounds aren't that scary as we hear them now, but boy were these sounds chilling to hear as a kid. That said, here are 5 gaming console sounds that scared us as children.
