What's the Difference Between an Alligator and a Crocodile?

At first glance, if you’ve ever seen an alligator or crocodile, they may look very similar. Both families come from the order Crocodilians or Crocodilia, so it’s not too surprising that they may share some characteristics. So how exactly can you tell the difference?
